My Path into the Property Tax Industry
My introduction to the Property Tax industry wasn’t something I carefully planned, it was a moment where opportunity met timing. Looking back, I’m not sure if it was coincidence or divine intervention, but I lean strongly toward the latter.
After being laid off from my previous role in the banking industry, I applied for what I believed would be a temporary position. During that process, a representative noted the mortgage experience on my résumé and suggested I interview with a company then known as CoreLogic, now Coality. That single conversation became the open door that introduced me to the Property Tax industry.
Before joining Coality, I had no direct experience in Property Tax, only a foundational understanding of taxes from my background in banking. What started as a temporary role quickly evolved into a career. Over the past five years, I’ve grown within the industry, learning something new every day and developing skills that have shaped both my professional confidence and expertise. I’m incredibly grateful for this journey and for what I truly believe was God’s divine intervention guiding me toward this path.
Most recently, I joined the Modern Family, and after just a few months, I can confidently say how excited I am to be here. From day one, the team has been warm, welcoming, and extremely supportive in helping me get settled. It honestly feels like I’ve been part of Modern for much longer than three months.
In my role as a BPP Operations Support Analyst at Modern, I support our talented consultants and valued clients by working closely with Tax Assessor offices. My responsibilities include ensuring Business Personal Property returns are received, hearings are properly scheduled and recorded, and consultants have the information they need to negotiate reductions and deliver savings for our clients. I also work with taxing jurisdictions to keep mailing addresses current, helping reduce risk and exposure, and ensuring Property Tax bills are processed by their respective deadlines.
Clear communication is essential in Property Tax. A single miscommunication can result in significant financial impact and, more importantly, erode client trust. At Modern, we pride ourselves on maintaining clear, consistent communication to protect our clients’ portfolios and uphold the confidence they place in us.
If you’re considering a career in Property Tax or looking for a workplace that truly values collaboration, growth, and support — Modern is truly the place to be.
